The beholder of the Spirit Window is allowed to look through the translucent
stone into the  "Other World" the "Spirit World" and is able to communicate
 with those who have passed to the other side or that live as spirits.

The Tradition of the Winter Count

The Winter Count was used to record the events of the winter. Pictorial records
were kept on the back of the skin and for many years was the only means of
recording events among the Native Peoples.

Dream Catchers

 

The Native American believed legend tells that all dreams are caught in the “Dream Catcher”.  Bad dreams are caught and held by the web until destroyed by the first rays of the sun.  Good dreams find their way to the hoop where they enter the life of the dreamer through a personal adornment.

Beaded Wrist Bands

The Native American wore many ornaments of decoration, many of which included bead work. Each family or clan and each tribe had a distinct bead design which they displayed in many ways, such on clothing, moccasins, wristband or armbands.

 

Medicine Bags

 

The Native American wore "Medicine Bags" which contained items of special power that brought that individual closer to the "Great Spirit" or gave them strength and power in illness or battle.

Beaded Hair Barrettes and Ties

The Native American loved to adorn their hair with feathers, skins of small animals and beaded ornaments. The "Peyote Stich Feather" is very traditional. The "Beaded Barrettes", though not traditional, allow the more modern wearer an expression of Native American culture!
